About Us
Welcome
Welcome to Arizona State University’s (ASU) Initiative for Inclusive Communities (IIC), an innovative Life Coaching service for adults with disabilities. We are based at ASU’s Center for Applied Behavioral Health Policy (CABHP), a research and training center of the College of Public Programs (COPP) at the Downtown Phoenix Campus.
Within this website you will find helpful information about our services, how you can access them, and additional resource information. We look forward to serving you and your family!
Our Mission and Values
Our mission is to help our clients realize their dreams and reach for their goals.
We accomplish this mission daily by keeping a focus on the following core values:
- Personal Choice – We focus on the goals and objectives of the individual we are coaching. We strive to work from a “person centered” perspective and base our coaching around what the individual wants to work on – not what they have been told they need help with, or what they have been told their weaknesses are.
- Active Support – We use our skills to develop the talents of the people we coach. We do this by remaining engaged with our clients each week and providing them with the tools they need to be successful. We always support them with results oriented coaching strategies.
- Dignity – We approach each coaching relationship with respect for the person, their family and their larger community. We assume competence with each of our clients and we work hard to understand them and their perspectives.
- Community Presence – We support and coach for personal inclusion in all aspects of community life, regardless of ability or limitation.
- Meaningful Relationships - We coach to help participants explore and deepen their relationships in all areas of life.
Who We Serve
We mainly serve metropolitan Phoenix area adults (18+) with diverse disabilities. These include but are not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyper Active Disorder, various learning disabilities, and other developmental and behavioral disabilities. We serve adults and young adults ranging from individuals transitioning out of high school to older adults encountering the challenges of later life. We specialize in helping families embrace the many challenges that result from living with disabilities and we welcome all inquiries into our services. If for whatever reason we cannot provide a specific service, we will assist you in a referral to the best available resource.
With access to Skype we are serving individuals beyond metropolitan Phoenix and invite people from around the United States and beyond to contact us to see if this is an appropriate way to coach for your needs and interests.
